Sanya Dongtian Park (三亚大小洞天旅游区)
Located along Sanya’s scenic western coast in Yazhou District, Sanya Dongtian Park covers an area of approximately 22.5 square kilometres. First founded in 1187 AD (the Ding Wei year of the Chunxi reign, Southern Song Dynasty), it boasts a history of more than 800 years. As one of Hainan’s oldest scenic attractions, it is also China’s southernmost tourist site featuring Taoist culture. Revered historically as “Hainan’s foremost mountain and sea scenic wonder”, the area was first documented by local officials of ancient Yazhou. Their visits gave rise to numerous stone carvings and solidified its cultural status as one of the blessed caves in Chinese Taoism. The park is themed around "Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands; Wonder of Sea and Mountain," weaving together Taoist culture, longevity culture, and South China Sea dragon culture, while blending coastal leisure, science education, wedding photography, aerial tours, and sea experiences. It is organized into six zones — Grotto-Heaven & Blessed Land, Fortune & Longevity Nanshan, Dragon King of the South Sea, Cliff Inscriptions, Sea-Mountain Wonder, and Sanya Natural History Museum — with more than 50 individual attractions.

Yazhou Ancient City

Yingwang Pagoda
Nestled in Yazhou District of western Sanya, Yazhou Ancient City represents the southernmost ancient prefectural city within China’s territory. Its institutional origin dates back to the Western Han Dynasty. For thousands of years, it functioned as the political, cultural and military hub of southern Hainan, as well as a pivotal frontier stronghold along the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
The ancient city hosts well-preserved historical relics, including Wenming Gate, ancient city wall foundations, the Shaositu Memorial Arch, and Yacheng Confucian Temple — the southernmost Confucian temple in China. Centred on these core landmarks, the old town retains a distinctive traditional street pattern summarized as “Santong, Silou, Qizhuan, Bajiao”, embodying the exquisite urban planning wisdom of ancient builders. Visitors can wander along weathered stone-paved lanes, experience the authentic layout of the ancient border town, and appreciate the profound historical and cultural heritage of southern coastal China.
